The Medical Council of India approves the college and is affiliated with Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. Dr. A. Nirmala is the current dean of the college. The college was established in 1966 after G D Naidu, a scientist from an industrial family of the city, donated the 153 acres of land to the Tamil Nadu state government under the Chief Minister K.

The college’s rich history dates back to 1908 when the hospital’s foundation stone was laid by Lord Ampthill, Governor of Madras.
