Established in 1957, Hubli is home to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences. Formerly known as the Karnataka Medical College–Hubli, the current name is the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences–Hubli (KIMS). In addition to helping people in dire straits, it serves the community by creating resources based on the expertise of healthcare professionals and academic scholars. DR.R.C.Antartani is the dean of the college.

MBBS Course

MBBS is the undergraduate medical course taught in medical college. The basic course structure includes studying of Biochemistry, Physiology, Anatomy, Microbiology, Pathology, Forensic medicine and Pharmacology. The MBBS undergraduate course runs for 5.5 years with a mandatory Internship training with the affiliated hospitals for the college.

Highlights 

Infrastructure and Facilities

1. Campus: The K.I.M.S. College campus is just two kilometers from the city’s heart, and there are convenient transit options for getting there at any hour of the day or night. The Institution is a short three kilometers from Hubli Junction, the most important of Hubballi’s four railway stations, which provides connections to other major towns and cities throughout India. Hubli also boasts an international airport, making it easy to travel to and from the city from anywhere in the world. In addition, the Institution is about 7 kilometers (15 minutes) from the third busiest airport in Karnataka state.
2. Lab: The school offers its pupils a lab structured by each department’s needs.
3. Library: The library is overseen and maintained by the Institution’s library committee. The group meets to talk about the library four to six times a year. The committee decides how much money should be spent on books/journals, how often the library should be used, and other library-related matters. A committee gives the librarian guidance on day-to-day operations.
4. Hospitals: The affiliated hospital has 16 Major and 7 Minor operative suites. There are 59 beds in post-operative recovery rooms and 38 in pre-operative rooms. 
5. Hostels: The K.I.M.S. campus has a dormitory with separate dorms for male and female students, each with its bathroom. Two intern hostels can hold 100 people each, and two girls’ hostels can have 387. This dormitory also has an anti-ragging committee. The school’s teaching and non-teaching personnel may choose between 478 apartments, each 60 square meters in size.
6. Food: The college cafeteria is available for students and staff to use during lunch.
7. Transportation: College buses will drive you all around the city for a nominal fee, which is quite helpful for students and faculty. Student clinical rotations at local hospitals and clinics are supported by free transportation.

Scholarships

The government scholarship is the largest one available. Since the government is footing the bill for this University, they cover practically all the costs associated with attending. Scholarship programs exist specifically for students from reservations who are financially struggling. Considering the inexpensive tuition, one may assume that no scholarships are available, yet the Government of Karnataka awarded me one since I belong to a minority group. “Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, medicine, PaM, and oBG, all departments are nicely maintained and clean, teaching excellent PowerPoint presentations. All staff aid juniors regarding doubts from the beginning of the course: information is not needed in the library. The top athletes are honored with trophies and prizes each year, and the top students get scholarships upon graduation. College is good, and attendance is at a respectable 90% consistently, with a cost system that varies by category (general category 50,000, another category less) and amenities (hostel charge, library fee, gym fee). Excellent campus. K.M.C. has the friendliest campus in Karnataka. The hospital director beautifully keeps the beautiful garden. Nice campus. Nice atmosphere.”

“The College is located on a major highway. You need to be highly competitive to qualify for this entrance test; if you score 95 to 98 on the theoretical portion, you may choose Karnataka Medical College as your preferred educational destination. The annual price of 1,000,000 INR is exorbitantly high due to the pricing structure: lodging costs, tuition, and gym dues. Clinical instruction is among the best in India, and the Institution provides a first-rate education. The faculty and staff are kind and willing to assist. Opinions on the college administration are divided. Our University has a history of scandals and unfortunate occurrences.”

“The balance between classroom instruction and hands-on experience was superb. Clinical exposure was high. Phase I, II, and III, parts I and II, were the primary testing phases. We also had quarterly internal evaluation exams to ensure we were on track with our studies. It took 5.5 years to complete the curriculum. K.I.M.S. provided an excellent educational foundation for future medical careers. We had an internship for a whole year after finishing our M.B.B.S. third-year, second-part exams. We were given the titles of “Intern” or “House-surgeon” and rotated around different hospitals and clinics. We experienced the first real surge of professional pride and passion during our internships. Although we did not yet have the degree, we were referred to as “doctors” and paid well (Rs 15,000) each month for our work. Working in various roles helps us choose which area of expertise best suits us. I planned on becoming a surgeon.”

• Based on the school’s isolated location, students have few extracurricular activities and socialization possibilities.
