About College

Kurnool Medical College is a well-known government college that was established in 1957. The government of Andhra chose to establish a medical college within the state’s Rayalaseema region when the state of Andhra was established in October 1953. The Andhra Pradesh government issued instructions on November 29, 1955, to build Kurnool’s third medical college. The government chose to admit 50 students planned for Kurnool Medical College at Kurnool City in July 1956 even though the college’s building was not yet completed. 

Each year, the Institute selects 250 candidates for both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. There are other diploma programs accessible. Furthermore, the institute offers super-specialty courses for postgraduate students along with diploma programs. The present dean of the college is Dr. P. N. Jikki.

MBBS Course

MBBS is the undergraduate medical course taught in medical college. The basic course structure includes studying of Biochemistry, Physiology, Anatomy, Microbiology, Pathology, Forensic medicine and Pharmacology. The MBBS undergraduate course runs for 5.5 years with a mandatory Internship training with the affiliated hospitals for the college.

Campus

• Five halls, with a combined seating capacity of 240 people, make up the college building. The hospital has a single lecture hall with 250 seats and other amenities.
• Both male and female students have access to separate common areas with a combined floor area of more than 400 square meters and connected bathroom facilities.

• There are separate reading rooms with 200 student capacity, outdoor reading rooms with 50 student capacity, and an interior reading room with 200 student capacity. This library contains 23,685 books and 41 foreign and 70 Indian periodicals.

• The General Government Hospital within Kurnool serves as the teaching hospital for Kurnool Medical College. This hospital is nearly 27,000 square meters in size and contains 1500 beds. 
• Approximately 2000 outpatients visit daily, with 90% of the beds used for inpatient care. This facility provides multi-treatment therapy that offers among the most modern treatment facilities.

Hostels

• A hostel and residential building within the Kurnool Government Medical College campus is 31 957 square meters. 
• In this compound, there are separate hostel facilities for males and girls. One hundred forty-six rooms with top-notch linens and fresh water, including restrooms, are available at The Boys Hostel. One hundred twenty rooms with the same amenities are available at the new girls’ hostel.
• It has a separate PG hostel with 132 rooms and different nursing and intern hostels. There are various housing options for teaching and non-teaching staff on this property. The dormitory wardens observe the students.

The faculty-to-student ratio here is about 1:20, the facilities are top-notch, and the teachers are from reputable universities. The course is taught well, follows NMC criteria, and has internal exams three times a year, one prefinal, and final exams after two semesters. Exams are of moderate difficulty.

We are aspiring doctors. Unlike other areas like engineering and the arts, we do not require any campus placements or employment possibilities. We have a one-year internship following four and a half years of academic study. The house surgency, as it is generally called, is a challenging and demanding course requiring us to manage the entire government hospital independently. It teaches us more than what we learned in school. Throughout the internship, we get stipends totaling ₹18,000 per month.
